Heritage Audiology is accomplished in evaluating and treating tinnitus. Tinnitus is the perception of a sound that has no external source and is commonly reported as a ringing or buzzing sound. It can be either constant or intermittent and is heard in one or both ears. The good news is we have a very successful track record helping patients with this disorder. If you or someone you know suffers from tinnitus, please contact our practice today to schedule an appointment for a complete tinnitus evaluation.

Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present. While it is commonly referred to as “ringing in the ears,” tinnitus can manifest many different perceptions of sound, including buzzing, hissing, whistling, swooshing, and clicking. In some rare cases, tinnitus patients report hearing music. Tinnitus can be both an acute (temporary) condition or a chronic (ongoing) problem.

Millions of Americans (over 50 million!!) experience tinnitus, often to a debilitating degree, making it one of the most common health conditions in the country.

TREATING THE CAUSE

There is currently no scientifically-validated cure for most types of tinnitus. There are, however, treatment options that can ease the perceived burden of tinnitus, allowing patients to live more comfortable, productive lives

Common causes of tinnitus include:

  • Hearing loss
  • Exposure to loud noises
  • Earwax buildup or blockages
  • Head or neck injuries
  • Benign tumor of the cranial nerve
  • Medication
  • Vascular disorders
  • Stress or depression

In order to find out the root cause of your tinnitus, your audiologist will conduct a complete medical history, as well as a complete examination.

Like many, we at Heritage Audiology have been closely monitoring the news about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We want to let our patients know we are open regular business hours but we are taking proper precautions to ensure the safety and health of everyone.
